A Few Questions with Erin Atwood, Executive Director of the Provincetown Business Guild
How long have you lived/worked in Ptown?
I grew up on the cape and moved to Provincetown 12 years ago.
If you had to pick, what is one thing that keeps you coming back?
The views of the ocean and the beautiful sunsets. Describe your perfect Saturday in Ptown from morning until bedtime. Make a mimosa and lay out on my back deck soaking up the sun, followed by a light lunch, cocktails at the White Wind Inn, Boatslip for T and then a dinner party in with friends.
What’s your favorite place to shop in town?
Can you really pick just one, there are so many shops that sell so many great things, but jewelry always gets me excited.
What’s your favorite place to eat in town?
Victors Restaurant, the atmosphere is fantastic, the food is great and they make an amazing spicy watermelon margarita.
Where can someone see you on a daily basis in town?
In my office behind the Purple Feather planning Provincetown’s next Carnival.
Miss Richfield 1981’s Perfect Saturday in Ptown
Miss Richfield 1981 dedicates her life to the friendly citizens and responsible merchants of her hometown of Richfield, Minnesota. This Midwestern maven is winning over theater and cabaret audiences around the country with an interactive format that combines homespun warmth and edgy improv, leaving audiences in hysterics with a truly original performance.
Miss Richfield’s national appeal includes riotous appearances on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and “Today” on NBC, as well as prestigious mentions, such as The New York Post recently honoring “Miss Richfield 1981 as the must-see act in Provincetown.”
As well as sell-out performances throughout the country, including LA, Chicago and New York, Miss R continues her sold-out reputation as the most successful act each summer at the Crown and Anchor in Provincetown, Mass. Miss R also finds time in her busy schedule to headline for Atlantis Events cruises and resort vacations, the largest LGBT vacation company.
How long have you lived/worked in Ptown?
I’ve been in town since 2003, I don’t know if I’d call it “living” since my performance career requires me to be beautiful all the time! Ptown is more like a glass bubble, where people can look at me and see the results of professional training and good, clean living.
If you had to pick, what is one thing that keeps you coming back?
So many, many things I love about Ptown! The best is that we all trod the same road – Commercial St. It’s the only place I’ve ever been where the city is not broken up into sections – it’s all one street for homos, lady homos, grandparents, students, people of color, and if you look at your feet, even some children! It’s for everybody!
Describe your perfect Saturday in Ptown from morning until bedtime.
With a caffeine kick from Wired Puppy or Joe’s, I board a two-wheeler for a sunny ride on the bike trails in the morning while I still have enough strength to make it up the hills. Lunch is out on a deck with a tray of raw oysters and a lobster roll, finished with an ice cream cone for my stroll down Commercial St. to window shop on the way to the beach. After dozing in the sun for a bit, I join the mass exodus for a spin around the dance floor at Tea. Then I race home for a modest application of lipstick before an hour on the street where I cajole and wrangle with the public to obtain a sold-out 9 pm performance at the Crown & Anchor. My perfect day is complete with a quick ride home on my scooter – without anyone dying.
What’s your favorite place to shop in town?
I do all my shopping on a little thoroughfare known as Commercial Street – food, cloths, artwork, fudge! It was good enough for the Pilgrims, so it’s good enough for you!
What’s your favorite place to eat in town?
There is no “favorite” because there are so many, many wonderful eateries in town – local greasy spoons to outdoor waterfront decks to fancy-pants meals with cloth napkins. But the best is that it’s all casual & comfy. Don’t worry about doing your hair and tying your shoes. Just show up and loosen your belt!
Where can someone see you on a daily basis in town?
The benches in front of Town Hall are a place to see me and everything else in town! Just sit down, relax, and watch the parade of fruits and nuts!
