The Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum’s New Inclined Outdoor Elevator

provincetown funicular

Get carried away in Provincetown this season. The Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum’s new inclined outdoor elevator, which will zip visitors from Bradford Street up to the monument grounds, is on track to be completed by June, executive director Dr. K. David Weider said. The cabin and carriage are on route to Provincetown and will take about four weeks to install.

High Head Beach

High Head Beach

If you are a hiker, you will love heading over to High Head Beach! From Provincetown, head South on Route 6. Just past the Outer Reach Resort (on the left), you will see a sign marked High Head Road. Take a left onto the gravel road and when you come to a fork in the road, don’t go up the hill. Stay to the left. You will see a small parking area with a portable restroom. Walk down the sandy road (closer to the parking area) for about 15 minutes. You will soon come to a beautiful beach with breathtaking views. The only way to get to the beach is by climbing down a steep sandy dune, but it will be well worth it. During the summer months there are hundreds of seals on the sandbars-a view you will never forget. A Truro beach sticker is required at this beach and parking is very limited.

Pilgrim Monument Lighting

Pilgrim Monument Lighting

As is tradition each year, we recently experienced the annual lighting of the Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown. This year was extra special, however, as it celebrated the 400 year anniversary of the Pilgrim’s landing in Ptown. As their website states: “We illuminate the monument for everyone who needs a little light and love. As a beacon of tolerance and hope for over 100 years, we honor those throughout our world who do not enjoy the acceptance and peace we are thankful for.”
